Once you’ve decided you’re extending your property for a bigger kitchen, you need to think about heating options. There are two main options, whether to have your kitchen heating linked up to your main central heating system, or to create a new heating system for the one room. Both options have their merits, and it depends on your own house as to which one to choose.
Extending your current central heating to accommodate your new extension can be quite simple. Adding a new radiator typically involves draining the system, extending the pipes, fitting the radiator and then filling the system back up. But, your boiler must be able to handle another radiator added or you could be putting too much strain on your heating and it could stop working altogether.
This creates one tidy heating network in your house. To do this though, you also need to have pipes that are relatively near or you could be creating too much work.
Separate central heating system
If pipes are not within easy reach, or if your boiler is quite old, it may be worth creating a new heating system entirely. This way, you can be sure that you are not putting too much strain on your current central heating.
If you are creating a separate heating system, you might want to consider other types of heating other than traditional radiators. Underfloor heating can work really well in a new kitchen, and is a popular choice for those that don’t want large radiators in a sleek new kitchen design.
Plinth heaters
Plinth heaters also free up wall space, as they are quite small. You can either have these connected to your current central heating, or have electric ones that don’t need a system to connect to at all.
